Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
ITrip AutoPilot broadcasts the music from your iPod to an open FM frequency on your car's FM stereo so you can play your tunes through your car stereo's speakers. RDS technology shows song information on your RDS-enabled car radio display. Built-in SmartScan technology finds the perfect frequency setting for you. The AutoPilot playback control puts a set of iPod play controls in easy reach.

Amazon.com Product Description
Straightforward and reliable, the RoadTrip from Griffin allows you to enjoy your library of music through your vehicle's sound system. Cord-based controls mean you can tuck your iPod out of sight (in the glove box or under a seat) and retain total playback control. If your stereo is RDS-enabled, the RoadTrip displays song and artist information.

1 out of 5 stars GARBAGE - GARBAGE - GARBAGE   January 7, 2009
R. H. Pepper (Pennsylvania, USA)
This is essentially garbage at an exorbitant price. The key feature, "smartscan", is utterly useless. Not only did it fail to automatically find any available vacant frequency as advertised, it consistently was unable to use even those vacant frequencies to which it was manually set. Customer Assistance was, most charitably, less than helpful or cooperative. Griffin, once again, has demonstrated its mastery of the marketing of a useless piece of non-functional/non-existent technology at a price well in excess any commercially reasonable figure. Most vigorously NOT RECOMMENDED at any price for any reason.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Product   January 5, 2009
Roberta Jelicks (Pine Grove, Pa)
I just purchased the Griffin iTrip AutoPilot and it is really a fantastic product, I had reviewed it prior to purchase but never expected it to be this good.Simple to operate, a breeze to hook up, everything it was promised to be and then some, I am a 68 year old Senior Lady and I had it up and functioning in under 5 min. Amazon was right there for me as well with the ease of purchase and timely shipping. I am super satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Must Set Frequency Below 88.1   January 4, 2009
Taylor
There is a way to get the frequency of this device set below 88.1, and for me, at 87.7 or 87.9, it works just great (I was going to return it if I couldn't get it down to these frequencies). I tried following the instructions from other reviewers to set at 87.9, but was having no success. So, I called Griffin and the rep. told me there is a way to do it, that I could probably figure it out, but he wasn't allowed to tell me because these lower frequencies are "illegal" in the US. So, I gave it one more try. Like the other reviewers, I hit FUNCTION, MODE and held MODE waiting for the Griffin logo to move up. Well, since the Griffin logo was already at the top of the small screen, it couldn't move up. So, failure again. But, I decided to then hit FUNCTION, PRESET and I saw that my lowest preset was at 76.6! Not sure how it got this way. I selected that preset and manually changed the setting up to 87.7 using the up arrow button. Now my reception is perfect everywhere (I go I live in a mountainous area, but have also driven to a congested metropolitan area with it). I am not returning it, and if you are still struggling with it, don't give up.

4 out of 5 stars With <88.1 Freq, it ROCKS!   January 3, 2009

Having purchased an iPhone 3G in july I have found it fustrating to find things that work correctly with it. I have tried various fm transmitters only to be disappointed. To be clear, I have been using the Belkin Tunecast Auto, and the iTrip autopilot does seem to have weaker signal strength in the default USA mode. HOWEVER!! Unlock the expanded mode and this is the winner hands down. Not only do I not have to constantly "retune" it to keep radio station interference at bay, but now I don't have to fiddle with the iPhone to skip or replay a song.

Kudos, Griffin, for keeping the expanded broadcast mode.

3 out of 5 stars International Mode still present   December 22, 2008

More than a review I just want to let you all know that the international mode is still present in the new releases of this fm transmitter. I bought one 1 week ago and after testing different combinations I found how to enter to the international mode setup.
This is how it works: Press function, in the right side press mode and let it pressed for about 10 seconds and release it. After this,0 the display will show three different options (US , EU, JP). Each option has a different set of frequencies. To get frequencies below 88.1 select JP (Japan). After this option the frequencies range will be modified to work just from 87.9 to 83 something ( I don't remeber the exact number).
Another function I saw, that I don't know if was present in previous versions is the Gain adjust. This option allows to increase the signal strength. From my experience the best adjust is to put the Gain in Zero. To get into the Gain mode just hold the function button and let it pressed for ten seconds as soon as you plug in the adapter into the ligther socket.
A final comment, my experience with this transmitter was really bad at the begining but with all this additional options now I have a decent functionality and I feel comfortable with my purchase. There's a fact and it's the same most of other people has said in the reviews, the transmitter lacks of power but overall it's OK for the price.
I hope this info will be helpful.
