Product Description The Apple Universal Dock serves as a convenient and elegant home base for charging, syncing, and more. Through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters, it works with iPhone and all iPod models that have a dock connector. So even if you own more than one iPod or iPhone, you can keep just one Dock connected to your computer, stereo, or TV, and when your iPod or iPhone is in the Dock and connected to a stereo or TV, the included Apple Remote lets you experience songs, slideshows, and more from across the room. Just choose a playlist, slideshow, or video, then sit back and enjoy. The Apple Remote offers play/pause, volume control, and forward/back buttons for easy control. Any iPhone or iPod with a dock connector can fit perfectly into the Universal Dock through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters. You simply insert the Dock Adapter for your particular model, then plug in your iPod. When you want to connect a different-size iPod or iPhone, simply pop out the Dock Adapter and insert another one. Display photos or video on a TV or other video device using a Component AV Cable or Composite AV Cable if you have an iPod that plays video. Different-sized Dock Adaptors allow the use of any iPod or iPhone product with the Universal Dock

Works for me January 5, 2009 X. liang I wanted to buy this dock for my iPod Touch so that I can listen to my music through my speakers in the living room. The quality and design is awesome. It even works perfectly with my Harmony Universal Remote. I didn't give it a 5-star because the Menu button on the remote does nothing for me and you can't change playlist using the remote. It also didn't come with any cables. If you are looking for a dock that connects your iPod nicely to your stereo, with limited remote capability, this dock is great.
Worthless December 28, 2008 David M. Peterson First no way to charge unless you purchase the addtional charger and the Menu button doesnt work.
Poor functionality + faulty product in my case December 24, 2008 M. Oliver (France and Pennsylvania) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with the other reviews of this product that the remote functionality does not do what I would expect and anticipate based on the product descriptions. In my case, I could also not get the unit to allow me to play video from my iPod Touch Gen 2 to a TV. If I connected the composite A/V cable (yes I had to buy this separately) directly to the Touch it worked fine, but when I docked the Touch and connected the cable to the dock it would not tranmit video. After 30 minutes on Apple's tech support line, they also agreed and I am in the process of returning it. Maybe this is just a weird case.... One way or the other, the dock is basically a glorified stand for an iPod. Save your money, buy a cable (available anywhere), and live without the virtually useless remote.
eBay December 8, 2008 Nils A. Lindokken (Chicago, IL USA) I have just ordered two of these docks from eBay. I love Apple and all, but $50.00 for a dock that doesn't use everything to its full potential? Yikes. Go to eBay, buy one without the useless controller for $9.99. Save yourself the money.
It's not what you expect... November 20, 2008 Leonardo PACH (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I understood the dock+remote would allow me to connect my iPod to the audio/video inputs of my equipment and control my iPod remotely. Well, it depends on what you consider "control the iPod remotely" to be. It does allow me to play/pause/skip, but it doesn't allow me to navigate the iPod menu. So, if you want to browse your songs/videos/photos, or if you want to switch from watching a video to listen a song, you need to reach for your iPod and use it. That restricts *a lot* the usefulness of the remote. (I don't understand how the other 2 reviews could be positive at all...)
