Amazon.com Product Description
Leave it to the makers of the first portable iPod speaker system to come up with a mini-theater solution that blows the doors off the competition. The Altec Lansing iMV712 inMotion speaker/video system boasts a pair of specially engineered, 3-inch neodymium speakers and a built-in, 4-inch side-firing subwoofer, which team up to deliver a full spectrum of pure, distinct sound with exceptional low frequencies. The resulting immersive audio is further heightened by Altec Lansing's Stereo Field Expander (SFX), which makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are--a must when watching movies with dramatic soundtracks. Speaking of movies, the iMV712 makes video come alive thanks to the high-resolution, widescreen 8.5-inch LCD display located between the speakers. Simply plop any iPod in the built-in docking station--the unit works with the iPod 3G, iPod 4G (click wheel), iPod photo, iPod video 5G/5.5G, iPod mini, and iPod nano 1G and 2G--and you can enjoy everything from obscure indie movies to your favorite TV shows to the latest Shins song.

As with the best portable mini-theater systems, the iMV712 works with more than just iPods, with a universal cradle that fits other brands of music and video players and an auxiliary A/V input for connecting a second device, such as a camcorder, CD player, digital camera, or portable DVD player. And thanks to the wireless remote control, it's a breeze to control your iPod and speakers from across the room. Other details include a built-in alarm (requires iPods with alarm and sleep timer features), an S-video output for connecting to a TV, and an elegant black housing that looks great anywhere in the home.

The iMV712 measures 18.5 by 7.7 by 8.2 inches (W x H x D), weighs 8.4 pounds, and carries a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
iMV712 inMotion mini-theater system, RCA-to-3.5 mm stereo cable adapter, universal MP3 cradle, quick connect instructions, user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars Party Pooper   November 20, 2008
A. G. Jenks (Oregon Coast USA)
I hate to be a party Pooper for Amazon, but this item is available OL for $99.00!

That's Brand New, and a respectable Seller. (Sorry, but I won't use Amazon to undercut Amazon.)

I ordered mine today (11/19/2008), so I'll update performance later.

Prices ARE droping, so do yourself a favor and shop around! For EVERYTHING!

3 out of 5 stars Why the wide-screen for a full-screen device?   October 4, 2008
Johan Peter (Amsterdam)
I fell literally madly in love with the iPod Video 80GB when it was introduced in '06 and to the dismay and amazement of my friends I bought five of them. I haven't regretted this severe case of Applelytis one minute since. The following Classic generations never brought fundamental improvements [maybe even the opposite] and I never had problems with accessories, like this excellent Altec Lansing, that became incompatible with each 'new' iPod [I love the simple and versatile TV-out function of the 5.5 gen iPod: not only via the jack-plug, but also the dock-plug. Both can be used with this 'Mini Theater'].
The sound-quality of the iMV712 is amazing, but I don't comprehend the concept of a wide-screen, designed for this model, since the iPod Video has a full-screen. The only way I can use the entire screen is with a 'flattened' picture on which every person looks fat and everything is deformed. If I want a normal picture I regretably can only use part of the screen. Another problem is that it is impossible to turn off -when just listening to music for instance- the LCD-screen [which has a relative short life-span, sometimes just 10.000 hours, except with LED backlights which last 50.000 hours, but those have only recently become standard]. When the screen dies the sound-function will become redundant too since the screen is incidently but essentially needed when listening to music. This will be a sad waste of the great speakers of which I'm sure that they'll last a lifetime...

PS: I would be very grateful to be corrected when I'm wrong in these matters!

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   March 26, 2008

Great sound quality for such a small speaker system. Worth every cent. We thoroughly enjoy using it. I just wish the screen was bigger for video, but the sound is so good, that I would definitely trust any new generation with a larger screen. Definitely a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds great!   January 4, 2008
Steve Waddell (Hampton Roads, VA)
I just bought this item today (1/4/08) from Circuit City for $199.99. They only had 2 left, and the sales rep said it was the only one that came close to sounding as good as the Bose system, and was $100 cheaper. I bought it without even being able to hear a demo, knowing I could return it if I didn't like it. But before I did, I went to CNET and Amazon right in the Circuit City store (on their laptops for sale!), checked the reviews, saw that the price was right, and bought it. I just hooked it up for my wife, and she LOVES it! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it reportedly won't work with the 6th generation ipod, which, when I get one for myself, means it won't work with mine but will continue to work with hers. Heckuva deal at Circuit City right now since they are no longer going to carry it. Oh, and we haven't even tried the video feature yet - we're just extremely happy with the sound alone! Happy New Year!

Not compatible with the ipod classic. I called Altec Lansing and they confirmed this fact. Unfortunately it is not mentioned in any of the instructions or materials. Very disappointed. To return it I pay a 20% restocking fee.
