Protects, but definitely not stylish and very annoying. January 10, 2008 buzzhunter (Virginia) The Bon Vivant is by far the best iPod case I've ever owned and the Contour Design iSee 20 Case is the worst. For years I had the stock Apple slip case, which served me well (the black one you slide in from the top). It was good (well protected, a decent belt clip) but you didn't have access to the iPod controls. When I lost this one, I went looking for a new one with more access. At first I bought the Contour Design iSee 20 Case for iPod. This was a mistake. It looks a lot better on the website than it does in real life. It's basically just a hunk of clear plastic that locks the iPod inside by attaching another piece of (softer) plastic where the USB cable goes. Yes, you have access to controls, and you can "see" the iPod, but it is beyond cheesy. To top it off, the protective sleeve is just slightly too small for the iPod (it was advertised specifically for my 20GB iPod), so I had to split it to make it work. Very annoying. Plus I have to take it apart and put it back together whenever I used my home speakers. The belt clip was removable, but somewhat cumbersome when on. So I went for this Bon Vivant and I cannot be happier. For one it's incredibly stylish... the dual tone and accent stitching gets many compliments. For another, it needs no "assembly." Just slip the iPod in the top and snap it closed. Everything is protected in one simple piece. And it's so much easier when I am taking the iPod in and out to use with the speakers (no it can't connect while in the case, but that's a minor issue at best). Controls are accessible while in the case, of course, as are the USB, headphone jack and lock (although my headphones sometimes get a little loose over the leather "pad" on top... if you have a straight headphone plug rather than the "L" style, you'll be better off). Finally, the belt clip is pure brilliance. There's a little nub on the back of the case to connect a well-designed clip, and is only slightly annoying without the clip on (i.e. it doesn't lay perfectly flat, a minor complaint). The clip itself is perfect in function (an easy to use lock and release, and it swivels to allow horizontal or vertical positioning), although lacking in style (simple clear plastic, in contrast to the beautiful leather. Of course, no one will see the clip behind the beautiful leather anyway!) The Bon Vivant is HIGHLY recommended for a 20 GB iPod. The Contour Design iSee 20 Case for iPod is highly recommended to AVOID. Hope this helps you! Steve
Great Case November 13, 2007 Nicholas Reinhardt (Michigan) This is great protection for an iPod. I have dropped mine countless times on every type of surface and no damage occured at all. The case is a little bulky and fuzz and dust collect underneath the case, but the iPod is protected from damage if dropped.
Contour Design ISee IPod case March 28, 2007 H. Tauber (Atlanta, GA) The case is great to see but the plastic scratched immediately inside my Tune Belt. The protective sleeve provided would take Houdini to get it on but this would not affect the outside scratching problem. On the positive side, access to the dock connector is neat and the top is open allowing access to the headphone jack and lock control. I think it is worth the price.
Inconvenient to use March 22, 2007 Sandy H (Dallas, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received this product and am planning to return it. It's incredibly cumbersome to use. The side tabs for releasing the bottom from the rest of the case are impossibly difficult to press at the same time. Not at all what I had in mind.
Don't Buy at any Price January 25, 2007 W. Moore 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read all of the earlier reviews on this iPod case and figured I'd give it a try even though many said it was a poor design - particularily the plastic "sleeve". The UPS man brought mine today and it is truly one of the worst designs I have ever seen for something with such a simple purpose (protect the iPod). As others have indicated, the plastic sleeve does not fit the unit (4th Gen 20GB iPOD) and is quite fragile. I ended up using the packing film that covered the screen when the iPod was shipped and scrapping the plastic sleeve (after it ripped). What a piece of junk!!!
