Product Description Canon 70-200/2.8 EF-L USM Zoom Lens USA
Amazon.com Product Description One of the finest telephoto zoom lenses in Canon's EF line, this 70-200mm f/2.8 lens offers comparable optics to a single focal-length lens. Other features include an inner focusing system with an Ultra Sonic Motor (USM), a 4.9-foot close focusing distance, and a 77mm filter size. The lens--which is compatible with EF 1.4x II and 2x II extenders--carries a one-year warranty. Specifications - Focal length: 70-200mm

Awesome lens even without IS. August 7, 2010 Paul (Boston, MA) There's not much I can say about this lens that hasn't already been said before:
1. Autofocus is insanely fast when the light is right. If you use this in lower light situations, it can hunt a little, but this is true of any lens. The AF assist light on your strobe will help, as long as you're close enough to your subject to be effective.
2. Bokeh is gorgeous at any aperture setting. I use this lens for portraits routinely zoomed all the way out to 200mm to compress facial features. You do have to be careful, because at f/2.8 the depth of field is so shallow that one eye can be in focus and the other slightly blurred.
3. Tack sharp even wide open. Picture quality is just as good at f/2.8 as they are at f/16. Stopping down is really a non-issue with this lens.
4. Price is right compared to the IS version, but you do need to be mindful of your shutter speed. Don't be afraid to turn the ISO up on your camera! These days ISO1600 is as good as ISO200 was a few years ago -- that's a three stop difference.
5. Compatible with the 2x extender, turning this into a 140-400 f/5.6 lens, while retaining full autofocus capabilities. Put this on a body with a cropped sensor and a fast frame rate, such as the 7D, and you have a 224-640 effective focal length. Fantastic for sports!
If you think the lack of IS will be an issue, remember, the combination of high ISO capability and a $50 monopod will go a long way!
Lens for all season!!! August 4, 2010 Marines75 (Doha, Qatar (Arabian Gulf)) I have used this lens extensively, weddings, portraits and landscapes and all I can this is a super excellent lens. Since this is not IS, my shutter speed is always 100 to compensate shake and if I am using a tripod I can go down to a very slow shutter speed, recently I purchase a canon 2x tele-extender and the image quality is as sharp as the original.
Wow July 8, 2010 Peter Q Gary (BURKE, VIRGINIA, US) Thumbs up. If you have a sturdy frame, a little muscle mass, and you don't require IS, then save yourself the extra $600-$700 and buy this lens. You won't be disappointed.
Pricey but well worth it June 24, 2010 Prashant V. Rao (Texas) I got one of these off an auction site, used for somewhat less than a new one. Like others, I was worried about the weight and the value. Having owned and used it for over 2 months now, on a Canon 30D, all I can say is it is very well worth its price. I debated going with the f4.0, which is lighter, but then decided to get this one to allow me to use it in low light, get more blur in portraits, etc. Now, when I take long distance shots of my kids in dim lit school auditoriums, I can do that quite easily, without a flash. Just turn up the ISO and bingo, I get my shot (ISO over 400-800 gets noisy quite a bit, so there is a limit to this). Sports events, it is freeze action. And the PQ is just amazing. The weight is not bad at all. Only downside is it is HUGE and attracts lots of attention and questions.
Enjoyable March 10, 2010 Betty Harmonhamilton (CAMPBELLSVILLE, KENTUCKY, US) 0 out of 10 found this review helpful
I haven;t had alot of time just yet to use this lense. But everyone says that it is the best. I wanted it for sport pictures this summer at the ball park . Maybe I can give a better review after I really get started using it more.
